A = adventurer

Have you eaten camel, kangaroo, agouti, alligator, hare or rabbit, besides regular meat from bison, cattle, pigs, chicken, turkeys, and seafood?

Well, I have, to use Tom Papa’s phrase in his travel log on the National Public Radio show Live From Here. Tom is one of the top comedic voices in the country.

The camel and kangaroo meat were eaten in the good old USA.

Adventure is a state of mind

The dictionary definition of adventure is an exciting or remarkable or very unusual experience, or the undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks.

To me, anything and everything out of the ordinary routine can be an adventure, even being stuck in the middle of a muddy, rutted road in Guatemala for six hours on a bus.

As Russel Banks identified himself as a voyager, so do I. Yes, like him, I do touristy things, the sights, sounds and tastes. Time permitting, I venture out to learn about the cultures, peoples, and histories.

As an adventurer and traveler,
  • I have traveled in 5 continents  (middle of the road between the more-traveled and the less-traveled). It means that my eyes are wide open for new experiences.
  •  A in my middle name is for adventure.
  • I have done scuba diving, in tandem sky diving, white water rafting, and taken a mule ride trip down to the Colorado River from the top of the Grand Canyon South Rim.
  • I am really proud that a local Cusco (Peru) tour guide asked me, the tourist, whether his answer to our tour group was correct or not.
